Agents
Chatbot, assistant or AI agent: what your company needs
By Julián Medina · Director of SourcingUp and creator of CommerceUp
Choose according to the work to be done and the permissions it requires. Product labels vary: answering questions, preparing a document and taking action in business systems call for different evaluations.
Describe the behavior before choosing a label
For frequently asked questions, evaluate source quality and whether the tool recognizes when it does not know. For proposals, check how it uses customer context. For actions in business systems, you also need permissions, an audit trail and error recovery. A product label cannot answer those questions.
Test a complete workflow
In an illustrative sales follow-up workflow, the tool might retrieve information, draft a message and suggest the next step. Permission to send that message is a separate decision. Keeping those stages distinct lets you start with assistance and expand the scope as the team learns how the system behaves.
Compare solutions with the same cases
Give each solution the same situations, including ambiguous requests and tool failures. Review what it resolved and what remains for the team. A smooth demo may depend on perfectly prepared data; your evaluation should reflect normal working conditions.
Put it into practice
- Define the task and its boundaries.
- Distinguish proposing an action from carrying it out.
- Check what happens when information is missing.
- Compare results, not brand names.
